Sparrow Lake

Sparrow Lake, part of the Trent-Severn waterway, is located just northwest of the town of Orillia and south of Gravenhurst. This small, shallow lake is approximately 7 kilometres in length and is spotted with a few lighthouses on granite islands and surrounded by rocky, well-treed shorelines.

Kawarthas

Four Mile Lake near Coboconk, Ontario is one of the many scenic jewels of the Kawarthas offering great fishing and wildlife.

Georgian Bay

There are tens of thousands of islands in Georgian Bay. Most of these islands are along the east side of the bay and are collectively known as the Thirty Thousand Islands which allows for memorable boat cruises in the area.

Second Street Home

Stiver House

The Stiver family from Germany lived in this Unionville home, passing it down from generation to generation. During the late 20th century the residence was converted into a business.

Stouffville Farm

This farm where I grew up belonged to the Clubine family since the turn of the century until it was sold in the 1970’s. The farmhouse was built in the 1840’s by the Schell family.

Unionville Home

This residence at Euclid Avenue and Main Street reflects the historic charm which has been well preserved in Unionville, Ontario.

Summitview School

Summitview school is the oldest school the town of Stouffville. It began as a high school for several decades after the turn of the century and is now serving the community as an elementary school.

Stouffville Train Station

The Stouffville Railway Station is one of the main terminals for local transit commuters and the Durham Heritage Train on weekends. Several years ago it underwent renovations to reflect its historic past.

Spadina House

Spadina House represented home styles of the 1920’s and 1930’s and was home to three generations of the Austin family. Opened to the public in 1984, it is one of 10 historic sites operated by the City of Toronto. It completed an extensive interior restoration in 2010, bringing the house back into the twentieth century.

Port Perry Waterfront

Port Perry is known for its picturesque, Victorian-era downtown with two waterfront parks and many clothing stores, restaurants, cafés, bookstores, and antique shops. There is also the Scugog Memorial Library featuring the Kent Farndale Art Gallery, the Scugog Shores Historical Museum and the Town Hall 1873 Centre for the Performing Arts.

Port Perry Post Office

The Historic Port Perry Post Office was officially opened for business in 1914 and has been serving the community for over 100 years at this location.

Pioneer Days

Markham museum at Markham road and 16th Avenue is a 25-acre open air museum dedicated to the preservation of the Maxwell House from Scarborough and other old heritage buildings. As a rural village, it has become an urban centre featuring nearly 30 buildings such as houses, barns, sheds, a school, a general store, a church and much more.

Muskoka Hart House

Huntsville’s Muskoka Hart House was built in 1893 and originally used as a hospital at the turn of the century by Dr Jacob Wilson Hart. After 1940, the stately residence was later turned into a tourist home by his daughter Marjorie.

Locust Hill Railway Station

Originally located just east of Markham on highway 7, Locust Hill Railway station has been relocated and preserved on the grounds of the Markham Museum.

King City Railway Station

King City Railway Station was built in 1852 along the Northern Railway and was later moved in 1989 to the grounds of the King Township Museum. It is believed to be the oldest surviving railway station in Canada, and was designated a heritage site in 1990.

Candlelight and Memories

Cambridge

On my trip to England in 2005, I had a chance to visit Cambridge University and see the pleasure boating known as punting on the river. It is an extremely popular pastime both during the summer and increasingly in the winter months.

Amherstburg Residence

This residence in Amherstburg, Ontario reflects the architecture of this border town at the turn of the century.

Wallace United Church

This church near Listowel, Ontario was where my mother’s family (Williams) attended while living nearby on their family farm. Many families in southwestern Ontario attended churches years ago similar to Wallace United.

Unionville Church

According to local historians, the Old Unionville Church was built by the architect of Casa Loma. It has since been sold and used as a retail location on the historic main street.

Stouffville United Church

After the sanctuary was built in 1892, Stouffville Methodist Church became part of a three-point charge with Bloomington and the Tenth line congregation. In 1925 it officially became Stouffville United Church.

Stouffville Pentecostal Church

Stouffville Pentecostal was built in the late 1960’s and has been active in the community for nearly 50 years. They are looking forward to a new location in the west end of Stouffville in the near future.

Stouffville Missionary Church

Established in 1903 originally as a Methodist Church, Stouffville Missionary remained at that location for 100 years before they moved to Tenth Line north and changed their name to Eastridge Evangelical Missionary Church.

Stouffville Memorial Christian Church

Established in 1842, Stouffville Memorial Christian Church has been designated a heritage site and is Whitchurch-Stouffville’s longest serving active church.

Springvale Church

Located at Kennedy and Stouffville road and originally named Second Markham Baptist Church, it was renamed Springvale in the 1980’s. The church building has experienced expansion since that time.

Grey County Church

Aldsford United Church is located in Grey County south of Owen Sound. This wintery scene typically reflects one of the many churches in rural Ontario.

Columbus United Church

Built in 1873, Columbus Community United Church has been faithfully serving the people of Columbus north of Oshawa since. They welcomed the parishioners from Raglan United following the closing of their church in 1987.
